They believe that the more frequently we encounter declarations of truth around us, the more we begin to live in the blessing and the abundance of those truths. Here is a message from the Owner of the company Adam Brodrecht.
We create our designs for the lost and the found, the broken and the repaired, the weary and the empowered, the abundant and the impoverished. Because despite what we may think, we are all the broken and we are all the repaired. We are all the weary and we are all the empowered. Jesus provided our rest from our place of turmoil. We have done nothing to earn it; it is a gift from the Father. It is a life we have inherited, through no effort or earning of our own works, but simply through a true gift of grace given to us by Jesus’ sacrifice. This is why we speak to both our humanity and to our redemption. To balance the two can be a challenge and we seek to bring light to dark places. You are redeemed through Gods good gift of life and yet we are all in dire need of that redemption because of the tragic fallen state of our humanity. It is truly a dichotomy that has been the subject of debate, conflict and celebration for ages.
We have a Christian Apparel shirt that we’ve titled Eat Sleep Praise. It is a reminder that our human nature is selfish and conversely that we have a redemption to be eternally thankful for. If you’ll allow me to expand on this thought, the original shirt that this one parodies says the following: Eat, Sleep, Rave, Repeat. In a word, this is the 21st century’s generation’s way of saying: Eat, drink and be merry, for tomorrow we die. Is this not the mantra of today’s society!? “Enjoy today because tomorrow is unknown, therefore the only thing that matters is today and the pleasures we derive from it.” When we do not hold to a larger purpose, it is easy to get lost in the unfulfilling pleasures of the ‘here and now.’
We decided to take this common pop culture motto and rework it with a single, simple change of just one word. This one word change would revolutionize the meaning of the shirt and give an entirely different meaning to the saying. Eat, Sleep, Praise, Repeat. When we praise, when we glorify God with our words, actions, thoughts and lives, everything changes, doesn’t it? Imagine a life surrounded around a lifestyle of Rave. A rave is an all night dance party with electronic, trance-like music. The intent here is to lose yourself for that night in the music and let the trance of the beats take you away from whatever reality you came from. The Rave culture is saturated with drugs and hallucinogens. More escape, more distraction, less reality, less responsibility.
Contrast this with the Praise culture. Think of what a praise-focused lifestyle brings with it! It directs my focus upwards, away from me and towards the sacrifice that my Savior made on my behalf and not only that but also on your behalf and the rest of humanity. It unites and brings us together. Best of all it does this in a context of selflessness rather than a framework of selfishness. The praise culture directs adoration towards Jesus, acknowledging who He is and what He has done. The rave culture directs our worship towards ourselves, our desires and our inhibitions. Consider for a moment what happens when we align our hearts with God’s goodness. A praise focused life begins to saturate and envelop every area of our lives. It shows up in how we treat others, how we work, how we approach challenges, how we love our families, how we socialize with friends, how we welcome discussion and conflict. Praise revolutionizes us because it takes the focus off of ourselves and onto a loving Saviour.
Therefore, Eat, Sleep, Praise, Repeat is a new way of saying what the Proverbs have been teaching us for thousands of years. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.” (Proverbs 3:6)
So allow me to encourage you to consider things a little differently and look at life in a fresh light. Praise Him in all things, in all situations and in all circumstances. Give Him the weight of your problems, direct your duplications to Him and life gets a little less burdensome.
And here is some additional food for thought that I will leave with you. Proverbs 3 goes on to say this in the coming verses; Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the Lord and depart from evil. It will be health to your flesh, And strength to your bones.” (Proverbs 3:7-8) The word ‘fear’ is the Hebrew word yare` and means ‘to revere, morally’. The word ‘evil’ comes from the Hebrew word ra`a` which means ‘to spoil’. I think this is interesting that we are guided by the writer of the Proverbs to revere the Lord and depart from spoil. Now doesn’t that sound rather similar to a contrast between Rave and Praise? Be blessed friends and live a life of Praise.
